The City of Springdale has made a tremendous effort over the last 5
years to upgrade and develop new parks to provide public spaces for
entertainment and enjoyment for people of all ages and interests
around town. The latest addition to the park roster may be the best
installment yet. On Saturday, Shaw Family Park opened to the public
and it is a sight to behold.
The $10 million park is comprised of 121 acres of land in the growing
Northwest part of Springdale. It features an expansive great lawn that
has burms and rolling hill areas that is also set up for entertainment with
technology available on site. The park has two separate playground
areas and a trail that winds its way through the property for 3 miles.
There is an extreme fitness area as well as a splash pad for the kids
and a dog park for your canine friends. There are also on site ponds
for those who enjoy fishing.
The park was not designed to feature sports. You will notice there are
no baseball or softball fields on site. It does include tennis courts, a
much needed asset in the city of Springdale. On the Northwest corner
of the park you will see the newly constructed Fire Station #9. This
station provides drastically reduced response times and excellent
coverage for Springdale residents located in this part of the city. The
park was built with a combination of bond money and donations from
the Willis Shaw family. The grand opening of the park will take place on
May 1st of this year.
