The filing deadline came and went yesterday at Noon for non-partisan
municipal races in the city of Springdale. Election season always brings
about signs popping up around town, billboards with red, white and
blue and television and radio ads that seem to run every other
commercial through the first week in November. This year will be no
different and in some cases different completely facing the uncertainty
of COVID-19.
Mayor Doug Sprouse filed and for the 3rd consecutive race will be
uncontested after winning his initial election in the 2008 cycle. The
Mayor has seen Springdale through economic downturn and then back
into a roaring economy and on through our current situation with the
Coronavirus. He is hoping to work through the 2018 Bond Program and
it's projects during his 4th and by his own admission final term.
The City Council races will be as follows.
Ward 1 - Randall Harriman and Mayra Carillo are running for the seat
vacated by Colby Fulfer a few months ago that is currently being
occupied by Jim Reed, who isn't seeking re-election.
Ward 2 - Councilman Rick Evans will be facing attorney Kevin Flores
who is in in his first bid to win election.
Ward 3 - Seven term incumbent Jeff Watson, a council member since
1998, is opposed by Tyson Foods corporate employee Tyler Smalling.
Ward 4 - Kathy Jaycox, a 22 year incumbent, will again seek
re-election. She will be seeking her 7th term on the city council against
Rockling Industries Safety Manager Mark Fougerousse and Derek
VanVoast.
