Few people in the world are able to have an impact so tremendous that you never hear a bad word said about them. Billie Adkins, at least in my experience, has accomplished that tremendous feat. I always jokingly tell people I believe if Mr. Billie ran for office he would win in a landslide. There just isn't hardly anyone in town who doesn't know or recognize him. He has truly been an iconic figure in our town for decades.

For 25 years the man who served in the Air Force during the Korean War and the Vietnam War has greeted citizens of Springdale and NWA at the door of his beloved Walmart and now his current post at Sam's. While he has a smile that lights up the room when you ask about Mr. Billie people always remember the stickers and his songs. He for years purchased stickers with his own money to give to children and serenaded ladies young and old with the Perry Como tune "Don't Let The Stars Get In Your Eyes". Mr. Billie is 89 now and has been married to the same young lady for 60 years, Mrs. Eula Faye Adkins. They both still hold down a job as they don't want to let any grass grow under their feet.

More recently he was set to celebrate his 25 years of service with Walmart and Sam's. He had been at home for the past 3 months due to the COVID-19 crisis so they were going to have a poster board for people to sign. One poster board. General Manager Will Mertig realized very quickly they would need many more. Below you can read the message from Mr. Billie who was so thankful for the love and admiration he received.

Mr. Billie wants to say THANK YOU!!!
Last week Sam's Club presented me with your encouraging words on 8 poster boards from the great city of Springdale. This week I enjoyed reading over 140 cards from NWA, Arkansas and 14 other states. I want to say a big thank you to my Sam's Club, Walmart, and the best customers and friends. You brought a smile to my face.

Don't let the stars get in your eyes, don't let the moon break your heart.

I look forward to seeing you soon.
