While the COVID-19 virus has certainly altered our way of life it has not prevented entrepreneurs and restauranteurs alike from moving forward with plans to prosper and create new offerings. It has long been discussed that there is a need for more food offerings in Downtown Springdale. In the last couple of years the area has begun making strides in that regard. Now more steps are being taken to offer even more variety.

Brent Hale, owner and executive chef, of Big Sexy Foods and Sammich Love recently announced that Big Sexy Food will be moving into part of the space currently occupied by Sammich Love. The two restaurants will co-exist in one space called The 107. In addition, the food truck that Big Sexy currently operates out of will now sell Willy's Country Store Southern Food. To be honest, I consider myself a lover of Southern Comfort food and I cannot wait to taste some of the offerings I have seen. The truck will be open from 11am-3pm Monday through Friday and is located next to Bike Rack Brewing Company just South of City Hall.

James Smith of James+James fame has made a major investment in Downtown Springdale. He recently did a major overhaul of the Watson's Furniture building creating a beautiful furniture store with a real operating woodshop attached so you can see the artisans at work on some of their thousands of pieces that ship all over the country daily. Now though he has his hands in something a little more saucy and sticky.

James has partnered with Nathan Wilkerson to bring The Pits Meatery: A Live Fire BBQ experience to Downtown Springdale. Located just one block North of the Arts Center of the Ozarks and Across the Street from James+James new store the new barbecue trailer looks to offer something pretty hard to find in Springdale these days. Smoked meats of all kinds including sausage, ribs, pulled pork and brisket fill the menu. I for one can't wait to get the text from James saying the barbecue is ready to eat. I expect that text later this month according to his Facebook page.

These times are trying and honestly I believe most of us are just doing our best. Whatever we believe that may be. I am thankful for folks like Brent, James and Nathan who are willing to step out there and create something new in the face of uncertainty and I hope you will go and try their food and help keep them providing some new offerings around Downtown.
