The old one-lane bridge on Pump Station Road has been a source of
heartburn for many in the community since it was washed out by
massive flooding in April of 2017. Though it may have seemed a small,
insignificant vein through the heart of the city it is actually a lifeline for
people travelling North/South through the middle of town and headed to
Northern neighborhoods such as Monticello and Thornbury.
The washed out bridge has been the source of much debate and many
questions as residents have waited to see movement and further
completion of the process to restore the thoroughfare to its previous
usefulness. There were questions about who would fund the
construction of the new bridge. How long would FEMA funding take
and should the city build the bridge and wait for reimbursement. It
seems we finally have some concrete answers and a target to look
forward to for completion.
The new two-lane bridge will be constructed with new approaches. The
Razorback Greenway will run under the bridge providing easy access
to the Lake Springdale area. The Arkansas Department Of
Transportation will be constructing the bridge now since the city of
Springdale has aided in land acquisitions for the right of way and
utilities. ARDOT has stated they expect the new bridge to be open by
Fall of 2020.
