Infrastructure is always a hot topic of discussion in Northwest Arkansas
as the area continues to rapidly grow and change and the demand for
more ways to reach our destinations grows. Connectivity to major
thoroughfares has been one such focus. Whether it be North-South or
East-West the more straight shots with less traffic lights that we can
achieve the more we can move traffic through our growing city.
Gene George Boulevard, formerly 56th Street, is once such roadway.
The long-term plan is to be able to take Gene George from Johnson
Mill Road all the way to Wagon Wheel Road in the north end of town.
Thus alleviating the congestion on I-49 and at its intersections with 412
and at Elm Springs Road. Completion of this project will lend to
substantial development along the corridor and allow for people West
of 49 to move more freely.
In the current bond project you will be able to take Gene George from
where it currently begins off New Hope Road through West Springdale
and up to Elm Springs Road. You will pass through 3 roundabouts at
Don Tyson, Apple Road and Har-Ber Avenue. The section of Gene
George that connects 412W and Har-Ber Avenue is set to open some
time this month. This should be substantial for the residents of Har-Ber
Meadows who have had cut through traffic to the schools for years.
As the 2018 Bond Program continues to move along we will keep
updating you on the current projects under way. The new Criminal
Justice Building as well as the Animal Shelter are well on their way to
completion.
