We moved to Arkansas when I as 5 years old, but every year we'd
make 3-4 trips back East to North Carolina to see my family. One of the
things I remember as a tradition of those trips was our routine stops at
Cracker Barrel along the way. Back then we didn't have one in
Northwest Arkansas, let alone my hometown of Springdale, so it was
always a treat for us to stop there. It was always so inviting and the
food was always excellent.
Earlier this week my wife and I decided to have lunch at Cracker Barrel.
I'm a breakfast person and more often than not I would get the Sunrise
Sampler or the Uncle Herschel's Favorite. That way I would get a little
bit of everything and not miss out on the goodness, but on this day I
opted for lunch. I am also a creature of habit and since I love Chicken
Fried Steak that was my choice on Monday. It was delicious topped
with white gravy and plated with mashed potatoes, corn and okra. I was
so full I didn't even get around to have a biscuit with jelly.
My wife, and much better half, decided to go my usual route and have
breakfast for lunch. French Toast was her choice. It was browned just
right, light and fluffy and the syrup wasn't too heavy. She also had a hot
chocolate that looked incredible. There was so much whipped cream
and chocolate syrup it required a spoon. It must have been tasty as
there was a single drop left at the bottom of the cup.
Our server was just right. She was polite and friendly, stopped by when
we needed her and didn't wear us out every 10 seconds with an
interruption. As we checked out we even found a few gifts here in the
holiday season for class parties and stocking stuffers. All in all a great
lunch and we were able to put a few bucks back into the city of
Springdale again by staying in town to eat at the only Cracker Barrel in
Northwest Arkansas.
