City Council Approves 2020 Budget, Raises for City Employees
On Tuesday night the Springdale City Council met for the final time in 2019. They took care of some pretty important business. They passed a budget of nearly $50 million for the 2020 fiscal year that will fund all city departments and $1.4 million in raises for city employees. The budget passed with a 5-3 margin.

For: Colby Fulfer, Amelia Williams, Brian Powell, Rick Evans, Kathy Jaycox

Against: Mike Lawson, Jeff Watson, Mike Overton

One major hang up was the funding of $82,000 for Ozark Regional Transit. By approving this funding all passengers in the city of Springdale can ride for free, a move previously approved by Rogers and Fayetteville as well.

The numbers on the budget can be somewhat misleading. While the city budgeted for $50 million and only projected $46.7 million in revenue there are other factors to consider when analyzing the financial health of the city. The city routinely comes in under the projected budget by anywhere from 5-10% this makes up a great portion of the budget deficit. In addition the city holds two funds in reserve that have nearly $8.5 million in total if needed. Springdale has experienced excellent and viable growth over the course of the last decade and the future appears to be bright and the financial forecast strong with all the development taking place around the city.
