The Latest Update on the
Pump Station Road Bridge
In April of 2017 Springdale saw flooding it rarely sees. The rush of
water destroyed the bridge that carries traffic North on Pump Station
Road. No one could have foreseen that 2.5 years later the bridge
would still be out and the people more frustrated than ever at what they
perceive as a lack of progress or concern over the reconstruction of
the bridge.
The bridge as been held up by many things. Massive flooding around
the country slowed federal funding to a snail's pace. Then the U.S.
Army Corp of Engineers had to be involved due to the involvement of
the underlying stream and environmental studies done due to the
presence of living things. The Arkansas Department of Transportation
is in the design process currently. The City of Springdale is in the
process of having appraisals done and purchasing utility right of way so
all utilities can be moved into proper locations to construct the new
bridge.
Once all right of way land has been purchased and the utilities moved
ARDOT will be given the go ahead to put the project out for bid. So
long as there are no hang ups in the bid process the project should be
on ARDOT's docket in the first quarter of 2020.
